Over the last two years, community leaders in Lincoln Square have fiercely advocated for 100% affordable housing in the heart of Lincoln Square – at 4715 N Western Ave. Now, city leaders are putting the project at risk over a single curb cut.
Our community continues to lose affordable housing at one of the fastest rates in Chicago. Addressing this crisis is deeply personal and urgent. We need city leaders to step up. We cannot allow minor bureaucratic preferences like a curb cut to prevent us from building needed affordable homes.
We call upon Mayor Lightfoot, Alderman Martin, the Department of Planning and Development, and the Department of Housing to support a compromise proposal that adds a sixth story of affordable housing to create more affordable homes, nearly 70 in total, and allows the parking entrance to be on Western Ave to ensure the project is financially feasible.
We believe getting this project over the finish line will be a monumental step forward for the neighborhood, and that the compromises proposed above will allow us to break ground soon, a win for all city officials involved as well as our community.
